Apple Intelligence heads to China, minus Siri AI
Apple has reportedly finally cleared one of the biggest hurdles for Apple Intelligence: availability in China, one of the two regions where it had struggled to launch since its 2024 debut with iOS 18. According to Bloomberg, the feature is expected to arrive with iOS 27.3 in December.
The notable detail is the partnership structure. In Western markets Apple relies on Google's Gemini, while in China it has reportedly struck a deal with Alibaba to use its Qwen and Tongyi Wanxiang models. Qwen is expected to power most features.
The reported absence of Siri AI from the rollout is the part to watch. It shows how regional AI partnerships, regulation and local model availability can shape what a flagship feature looks like from market to market. For anyone working in AI product, platform strategy or localization, this is a useful case study in how global products get adapted.
