Coolpad's Cool X Wide Goes Widescreen With 16:10
Coolpad has launched the Cool X Wide, a smartphone with a 6.38-inch HD LCD display, a 90Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and includes a 50MP main rear camera with a macro sensor.
What stands out is the form factor. GSMArena notes the device is similar to Huawei's Pura X View, which suggests that wider-than-standard screens are being explored by more manufacturers, not just premium brands. For product and design teams, that is a signal to watch how aspect ratio shapes content consumption, multitasking and app layouts.
The spec sheet is modest, and Coolpad has not yet shared all of the details, so it's too early to judge the device's overall position. Still, it's a useful example of how mid-range hardware can be used to test new design ideas.
What do you think: will wider screens become a real trend or stay niche?
