NASA Fires RS-25 Engine for Future Artemis Flights

NASA recently conducted a test of RS-25 engine No. 10001 on Oct. 21 at the Fred Haise Test Stand at NASA's Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Test teams fired the developmental engine for 500 seconds, the same duration RS-25 engines run during an SLS (Space Launch System) launch.

For anyone working in aerospace, this kind of ground testing matters. Long-duration firings give engineering teams data that is hard to get any other way, and they build confidence before hardware is committed to flight. Work like this underpins the readiness of systems supporting future Artemis missions.
