WhatsApp Guest Calling: Invite Anyone, No Account Needed

WhatsApp's new Guest Calling feature is a useful signal about where communication tools are heading. Hosts can now invite people without WhatsApp accounts, with no time limits on calls and end-to-end encryption still in place. The design leans on control: guests wait in a waiting room until admitted, hosts can remove them at any time, and guests cannot see phone numbers, message participants, or call them directly. Guests still get meaningful collaboration tools, including screen sharing, reactions, and raised hands. For professionals, this points to lighter-weight meetings with external partners, clients, and contractors, without forcing everyone onto the same app. It also highlights a broader trend: privacy and access controls are becoming core features rather than afterthoughts.
