WhatsApp adds Group Status for group members only

WhatsApp has announced a set of new features, led by Group Status. The feature lets users share Status updates visible only to group members, who can view, react to, and like them, and add their own. Like regular Statuses, they disappear after 24 hours.

Why it matters: messaging apps are steadily moving from one-to-one chat toward more contextual, group-based sharing. A Status limited to a group gives teams, clubs and communities a lighter way to share updates without broadcasting to everyone.

Admin tools also expand. Group admins can now share message history with new members after they join, not only when they are added. That is a small change with real implications for how onboarding and knowledge sharing happen inside group chats.

WhatsApp also now lets users pin messages in a chat. For professionals who rely on group conversations, these features point to messaging platforms becoming more useful as collaboration tools.

Which of these changes would you find most useful at work?
