Modern Warfare 4 Opens With a Strong Steam Start

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is off to an unusually strong start on Steam, with 1,630 of 1,812 user reviews positive at the time of writing, a "Very Positive" score of 90%. Insider Gaming first flagged the trend when the game had around 900 reviews, and the positive share has since climbed.

Why it matters: the comparison is what stands out. SteamDB rates Black Ops 7 at 38.71%, Black Ops 6 at 45.75%, Modern Warfare III at 48.19% and Modern Warfare II at 47.10%. Early reception is a useful signal for publishers and studios, especially for a franchise whose recent launches have struggled with player sentiment.

The caveat is important. These reviews come from pre-order players who got campaign access a week early, so they may be the most enthusiastic audience. SteamDB's scoring also pulls low-review games toward 50%, so the numbers will keep shifting as more players weigh in.
